During today's lesson I had nothing to complete as I had done the majority of my work over the weekend. I have completely finished my diorama but I will not be able to fully assemble it until tomorrow because it would be to hard to transport.  I'm really excited to see my project coming to completion and to see all of the other things that people have made for their projects.

My goal for this lesson was to cut out the majority of things that I had printed out. I found that I needed to print and reprint most of project as they looked different printed out than they did on the computer. I also sorted out all the furniture that I needed to get to build my diorama of "The Secret Annex." Its quite exciting to be able to see my project finally coming together.

Today I completed my "Anne Frank Diary" artefact. I bought a small exercise book and then covered it in some paper that I coloured in to resemble Anne Franks actual diary. After I had completed the cover , I photocopied some diary entries from "The Diary of a Young Girl"  that I believed that Anne described some of her experiences she had in the annex. Ms Hurwitz suggested that I should annotate the entries about what they were about so that people didn't have to read the entire entry and could just get a general idea.

My goal for this lesson was to complete " Annex Timetable" and "People of the Annex" components of my project. I started with the "Annex Timetable" part I found this very interesting as I got to discover what the members of the annex did basically every single day, and also all of the rules they had to follow to avoid being discovered. Some of the rules were as strange as not flushing Then when I was writing the "People of the Annex" part of my project I found it quite fascinating to find out all of the different personalities of the people who were in hiding.

My goal for this lesson was to complete my components of "Post- Annex Life" and "Hitler and WW2"for my project. I started with doing the section on Hitler and WW2. I thought this was important to include in my display as it gives the viewers of my exhibit an overview of what was happening around the time that the Frank's were in the annex and what caused them to go into hiding. I was fascinated to find out about how many restrictions were implemented on the Jews! I found a quote from Anne Frank's diary where she wrote about the restrictions:

“Our freedom was severely restricted by a series of anti-Jewish decrees: Jews were required to wear a yellow star; Jews were required to turn in their bicycles; Jews were forbidden to use trams; Jews were forbidden to ride in cars, even their own; Jews were required to do their shopping between 3:00 and 5:00 P.M.; Jews were required to frequent only Jewish-owned barbershops and beauty parlours; Jews were forbidden to be out on the streets between 8:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M.; Jews were forbidden to attend theaters, movies or any other forms of entertainment; Jews were forbidden to use swimming pools, tennis courts, hockey fields or any other athletic fields; Jews were forbidden to go rowing; Jews were forbidden to take part in any athletic activity in public; Jews were forbidden to sit in their gardens or those of their friends after 8:00 P.M.; Jews were forbidden to visit Christians in their homes; Jews were required to attend Jewish schools, etc.”-Anne Frank

I then decided that instead of doing more paragraphs about " Post-Annex Life" I would put a QR code with some pictures and the QR code would link to the Official Anne Frank website on a page dedicated to what happened to the Franks after they were arrested. I found this page was written/ explained very well, so I though =t it would be a beneficial thing to include instead doing more writing.

My goal for today's lesson is to finish my research for my project. I achieved my goal for this lesson as I completed all the research I needed for my topic. I have started to try and complete the "typing up" aspects of my project so that I can start printing things out and putting things together so that my project will begin to come to life. I completed my section about the pre- annex life, I have decided to presented this information on the pin board as this will give people a basic idea about who Anne Frank is and her early life. This will allow people who may never have heard of Anne Frank before to   have a basic  overview of her life. I feel excited now as my project is starting to come together.

My goal for this lesson was to continue my research so that I had all the facts/information needed to complete my project. I spent my lesson researching  all the aspects that I wanted to cover. These include:

  • Pre-Annex Life
  • Post -Annex Life
  • Anne's Relationships in the Annex
  • Annex Timetable and Rules
  • Annex Layout
  • Annex Timeline
  • Hitler and WW2
  • Diary Entries (that had the best descriptions about the annex)
I tried to find a wide variety of sources for each of the topics so that I could double check/ validate information about each of  the aspects of my project. I found this very helpful to do as some websites had different facts and dates, so it was beneficial to use multiple sources.

My goal for today was to finalise which sources I wanted to include in my annotated bibliography. I finished this rather quickly so I spent the remainder of the lesson watching documentaries/videos on Anne Frank to gain a basic knowledge about her life. I have found this very helpful as I am also reading her diary. And by watching the videos I have found the diary easier to interpret. I also really enjoyed watching some of the videos as they were dramatized versions of her diary which were very interesting .

My goal for this lesson was to finalise my topic and refine my question. I believe that I have achieved my goal for this lesson as I have definitely decided on my topic, "Anne Frank" and I have refined my question to, "What was Anne Frank's experience when  living in the annex (1942-1944)?" I have also started to develop the aspects of the topic I would like to explore in response to that question such as the layout of the annex and her relationships with the people living there. I also found a good resource on the Anne Frank House Website (http://www.annefrank.org/en/)   which allowed me to take a virtual tour of the annex which has been very beneficial for research.

Today I decided on doing Anne Frank as my topic. At first I was hesitant as I did not really know how to cover the entire life of Anne Frank. I was intrigued by how her life was so interesting and out of the ordinary. I was also fascinated by the complexity of her family's plan to try and hide from the Nazi's awful tirade. I later defined my topic down to the question, "What was it like for Anne Frank when living in the house (1942-1944)?" as this will make it more manageable to complete within the time frame allocated.  I found two really good books about Anne Frank, "Anne Frank- Emma Johnson" and "The Life and World of Anne Frank- Brian Williams." They both had clear, well set out information that was very interesting and useful.
